Ok my floor got soaked last week during a 3 day rain storm. My truck started to smell rotten so I pulled the carpet out so I could wash it and let it dry. Should I remove the jute and replace it with new jute or use some other insulation or just let the jute dry?
I need to seal up the leak with silicone before I put the carpet back in.

If it's only been sitting a week..... I'd say you could put it back down.
But it shouldn't have started to (smell rotten) so fast, if I was a betting man that means it's been wet b4, and may merit replacing though.

Let it dry and air our, give it the ol' sniff check, and if it smells like a dirty foot (the slightest amount of moisure again will bring the smell right back out)...... I'd consider other options.

You are clearly more particular than me though, when I left my windows down and it rained..... I just doused my floor in febreeze, cranked up the heat on floor vents, rolled up my windows and left it for several hrs. haha.

haha yea its been wet before.....Just this time it really smelt rank.

i don't blame ya, i hate the smell of mold and moistness.... we have an artificial rainforest at our zoo, and it's unique in it's smell, and could make you sick if you didn't like it enough.

What I do to all my trucks to kinda help keep the truck a little cooler in the summer and little warmer when I go up to boarding. I use the this foam duct insulation. from lowes or homedepot the foam wont asorb the water.
Seems to work pretty well.

yea i had this problem last summer.....leaving the doors open or windows down for days didnt help...would feel dry but next time it got wet (got wet numerous times because we couldnt find the leak) it would smell like ass....plus me having a black ranger doesnt help when it comes to heat in the summer time. Ended up replacing it after we found the leak. We just went to a local junk yard, found a mazda truck that had good carpet (no stains, and had not been wet) and while we were there we got all the power stuff of it and all the interior panels including the dash and just switched all my stuff over to grey from tan.

But you need to find the leak before you do anything. Mine was the 3rd brake light and rear windown....my window is the bolt on one so we just took it out and resealed it. then replaced the gasket around the third brake light.

Ya I just found my 3rd brake light was leaking but my truck is yet to stink so I feel pretty good about the foam insulation.

just keep in mind that if it doesn't absorb water/moisture, it also will keep it trapped under it. don't forget to take it out occasionally to let the bare floor dry out or you'll have rust there before you know it. just my $.02.
