That trebuchet could probably help get you the acceleration you're after with that 2.9. Though it looks like your counter weight will hit the brace. Maybe swap that large weight out for your spare 2.9 block and get some use out of it.

I'd have to give the win to the 2.9L... just because I'm always beating up on PJ412 about his engine choice.

I've had both engines in a Ranger. The 3.0 felt like it had a lot more power than the 2.9. Both were extended cab second generation trucks. The 3.0 had a 5 speed, though.

My 2.9 vs. your 3.0 any time, anywhere pumpkinf*cker ?

They like to wind out from what I have heard, a manual trans would probably help in that regard. As would deeper gearing.

My only experience with either engine was a 2.9 in a wrecked truck that I got in high school for the trans that I converted into $200 10+ years ago without ever running it.

Yeah, that 3.0 really seemed happy climbing a steep hill at 60mph in third gear. And it liked dropping from 4th to 2nd at 30mph and being run up to 45mph.

But i didnt realize this was a serious argument.

If we wanna be serious about it, the 2.9 is generally regarded as stronger then the 3.0. Ive noticed most people that say the 2.9 is a dog have one bolted to an A4LD.

As for the 4.0, for being 1.1L bigger it just dont "feel" as strong as it should IMO.

Yes the 2.9 has its faults, but when you compare it to what it was competeing against (GM 2.8 and jap 4 cylinders) its pretty clear who the winner is.
