well the 95 finally took a dump on me...

what if it overheated because my water pump leaked and i hadnt put any in it in a LONG time

Worst case scenario. The head could be warped/cracked, thus causing the headgasket to go bad (if it wasn't already) and causing it to lose compression on the one cylinder.

Either way a good used head would be around $100 from a junkyard. Hell I have one in my garage I'm selling.

No matter what, I don't see how you bent multiple valves. Lots of flags going up here. Take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

And pay a little more attention to the truck in the future. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but knowing a pump was leaking and not keeping an eye on the fluid is a recipe for a preventable catastrophe.

well the shop we took it to my grandpa knows the owner really well & i dont think he would be screwing us over, hell he called my grandpa to look @ the head to see if he could see anything wrong, and the shop doesn't do much internally on engines so they are taking it to a machine shop to see if the head is cracked

How hard could it be to align the timing the belt on a 2.3L. First time when I did, I nailed it dead-on on the first try. As for the whole PCM replacement, did they check the crank position sensor?

idk but every time I would get it in time and turn the crankshaft by hand it would be off by a quarter, and yes they checked that, and pretty much every other sensor on the som bitch

Yeah, MOST (not all) mechanics are borderline retarded.

My CEL kept coming on for the evap purge valve circuit malfunction.
I'm not sure what was wrong with the computer to cause it, but replacing the computer fixed it.

Most mechanics are poorly trained and don't have anyone with experience to teach them.
So it seems to me that you should buy the newest vehicle you can afford.

If you cannot fix it yourself, like most people, you are at the mercy of the stupid mechanics and dealers.

The fact that they did not perform a compression check before replacing electronics shows what they have been trained to do.

Hook up a connector and read the computer screen.

The ranger has 40k on the engine, but how many actual miles does it have on the vehicle itself? Whichever one you get, I'd take it to a reputable mechanic and have it looked over before I buying it.

If your "mechanic" has to take it to a machine shop to check if the heads are cracked they obviously shouldn't be in business. It's not hard to see a crack in a head at all.

take it to a different shop....u CAN NOT bend valves like that on a 2.3 only way todo that short of some catastrophic failure is hydrolocking it, it is not a interference motor, so the valve can be fully extended and not ever come close to touching the piston, thus no bendage....... pull the head, have it shaved put it back together, set the timing correct, replace the crank position sensor, and get the truck back going, if it were my truck it woulda been fixed within a week (machine shops are busy)

u know.....it just seems to me like u were being neglectfull to the truck intentionally, and even though it can be fixed now for a couple hundred easy u just wanted another vehicle and thus u sentenced the 95 to death :-(

why yes yes i was intentionally being neglectful because i hate this truck with a passion and i wanted it to blow up sarcasm, btw the heads werent bent

bent heads? you mean warped or cracked heads.... Yeah from the above posts, the truck is put through severe neglect, and incompetant mechanic at best trying to "fix it".. If that guy had worked on my vehicle, he would be getting fixed by incompetant doctors right now. Regardless of you knowing the mechanic, what does that mean? Usually those are the type to screw you over, because you will be less suspicious and trusting.

w/e the valves werent bent, we still dont know what is wrong with it, my grandpa said it might be one of the spark plugs could be bad

yup u sure were runnin on a leaky water pump, they probably just didnt set the timing right is all, i almost wanna bet there using the timing light without taking the pill out....
