New guy here saying Hi. My name is Burt, I bought a 1995 B2300 in October. It's a 2wd, 3.45 rear end (looked up the axle code in the Tech Library
), a/c, no ps, had 83k when I bought it has 88k now. When I bought it, the tires were bald 195/70's. I replaced them with some 205/75 Kumhos that ride pretty nice but still look too small I think, even for a 2wd truck. Came with a busted passenger mirror, just bought one 5 minutes ago on ebay for $25 shipped.
I drove it from Portland to LA in November and got 25 MPG+ HWY, with the best tank being 27.6 MPG. It rode really nice and quiet all the way down there, though the seat has awful back support. I bought a cot at Joe's that fits perfectly length-wise in the bed and it makes for real comfy sleepin on road trips or camping.
All I've had to do so far is 1 oil change, a fuel filter (met the stupid 4 metal fingers on the fuel line), and I'm trying to figure out why sometimes when it's hot it wont start right back up. I searched and read that it could be a "fuel pump relay", but I went to Car Quest and they said that part wasn't in their computer... Also was told it could be a some modulator located around the coil packs. I looked at the part on the computer at Car Quest but I cannot find it on my truck yet. I hope that part isn't my problem because its $195!
I bought the truck because I wanted something I could use for work that would get good MPG and have some cargo space for my job. I also bought it because I wanted something I wouldn't be tempted to throw money at. Well, then I found this site when I was browsing FTE and now I have all these damn ideas in my head! I've been reading threads for hours and looking at all the nice trucks.
I drove it in the snow for a week, and even without chains and with an open diff I was surprised that it could get me around. When I finally put the chains on it felt like a tank lol. I would like to ditch the open 3.45 rear though, for a 8.8 3.73 ls, or possibly upgrade the 7.5 rear to 3.73 w/ trac loc (saw some "factory ford" units on ebay for $150ish). I still need to research whats junk and whats not. With 3.73's the factory says I should be able to tow 1600 pounds. My work trailer is about 2000 pounds. Is there anything relatively simple I can do (performance wise, not higher gear ratio) to be able to occasionally tow a 2000 pound trailer with a 2.3 4 cyl or am I dreaming? It wouldn't be the primary tow vehicle, just maybe once a week.
Also pertaining to snow travel, my ground clearance sucks. I could barely lay under it to change the fuel filter and I have a 32" waist. I've been reading about what I can do to cheaply lift it. I'm thinking about a 2'' torsion bar crank in the front and an ad-a-leaf in the rear. How much can you safely crank the t-bar and still use factory length shocks? I haven't read much on shock options. Maybe later tonight. I think with a 2'' lift, 15'' rims with 30x9.5's would look good. If any of you have a guesstimate at how much my fuel mileage would suffer when switching from 3.45 w/ 205/75's (20-23 MPG city, 24-28 HWY now) to 3.73 w/ 30x9.5 AT's I'd be all ears.
Anyways, couple of truck pictures:
Just for kicks, here are a few of my past rides. I like all kinds of vehicles.

And my favorite, my F-1. My dad gave it to me when I was 12. He bought it around 1970 in LA. It has a 226 flathead.... Someday...
Anyways, looking forward to learning a lot on this site. Thank you to everyone who generously shares their knowledge with the green thumb average joe's like myself.
