Here is the choices on beds. I suppose being an extended cab doesn't matter?

I picked a 6ft bed, single tank. Here's what came up in Va.

Dang dude, that's some seriously bad luck. People who are unwilling to turn the wheel more than 90 degrees under any circumstances are infuriating. I hope her insurance is paying for that. Good luck with your parts search.

Too bad you're in VA, I got some parts here in GA that could have helped.

With a hit like that check your cab mounts and frame real good. Before putting a bunch of money into it make sure that the frame rail didn't get bent and that the cab is still sitting where it's supposed to. Everything is probably good, it didn't appear to be that hard of a side impact, but better safe than sorry.

Are you sure that the axle is bent? It may be a trick of the camera, but to me it looks more like the backing plate is bent. Might be worth digging in and inspecting that before comitting toa plan there.

I hope her insurance is paying for that.

Buzzard I'm sure will chime in, but he may not want to get insurance involved at all. Unless he's got one hell of a policy, the insurance is likely to total it before repairing it even with that limited damage. Doesn't look that bad to us, but the value of the truck isn;t that high to begin with. Labor rates in the colission shop arent cheap and can quickly exceed the total threshold.

Of course there is the option that insurance can total, then buy back and repair. That creates a mess with the title status.

Thankfully she claimed all fault and her insurance is going to pay. But sad news is they are going to total loss my truck because the frame got bent when she hit me so yeah but I’ve been able to now locate an 89 Stx I’m just hoping insurance will pay enough to cover getting it!!

That's an 88 at latest, but it looks nice. If the price was right, I don't think I'd worry too much about what the insurance would cover. I do understand that everyone's situation is different.

I was afraid of that. My hit was a whole hell of a lot harder than yours, but these frames seem to bend fairly easily from a side hit like that.

I think I'd be buying my truck back after the total and saving all of the parts that I could.

Yeah, I should have just said "I hope she pays for it" - I forget how much of a royal pain insurance can be in certain places and with certain types of policies and all the other issues.
I have buyback options on my vehicles but salvage titles and all that, yeah, nobody needs that headache.

I’m serious, question, don’t all of the extended cabs have 6 foot beds?

On the insurance claim, it might sound crazy, but there are automobile appraisers out there just like appraisers who do real estate. Down here it cost about $300 for them to appraise something like that.

Here’s the point. You can say whatever you want and you’re just a guy who got hit. The appraiser is a professional in the industry. I guarantee he will at least get you more than he cost.

More importantly, and I mean this with every respect, the average insurance adjuster is going to look at a truck like that and say it’s $100 old piece of da da da….

The insurance appraiser will bring it to the fact that these are classic trucks and their value is in the performance in the woods, and not the shininess of the paint, etc., etc. Do that, and maybe just get a letter from somebody here in The Ranger Station that talks about the value in the way you use it, and what it would cost to replace with a similar truck, and you’ll do OK.

Best thing is nobody got hurt, thank Him for that!

If you want to private message me, I’ll give you my phone number and I can walk you through the drill. I’ve had to use an appraiser several times because I had unusual vehicles that got damaged. Good luck with it.

edit, afterthought. The insurance adjuster from the insurance company, they’re not necessarily all bad guys. But if he’s going to go higher than the book value, he just needs something to hang his hat on. Get the adjuster and get somebody who really knows that kind of Ranger to write a letter, and the adjuster will have that hook he needs.

The biggest thing there are afraid of is medical claims. So if you are a little bit sore, I’m not proposing any fraud, but tell them, and assuming you’re not seriously injured, make a release part of settling the truck damage.

I’m serious, question, don’t all of the extended cabs have 6 foot beds?
From the factory? Yes ...maybe...

If they came with a bed at all it was a 6 foot bed. Ford did build chassis cab Rangers which would have come without a bed, but I can't say if any of them were extended cabs.

30+ years later? Probably, but who knows.

In regards to his "being an extended cab doesn't matter" comment, it doesn't. The 6 foot beds were the same whether it was on a regular cab or an extended cab truck. The only difference in the applicable 6' beds was one filler door or two. If you have a single tank truck, the second filler door only matters for cosemtics.

how much do you want for your truck?

i would put an axle in it and keep going....

Hmmm, I have an extra axle ( just joking)

it's a shame old stuff gets scrapped, up here in the rust belt those years are getting very rare.
yards won't even keep them for parts.
