Got my self in some sticky situations lately and want some feedback non whether to weld the Spider Gears or not. I want an 8.8 but it's just not in the budget for now, and since I usually have my 7year old with me when I'm wheeling, getting stuck really blows.
I can get the rear end welded for free and I hate getting stuck with the boy with me. Plus I think the elevenses would be B.A.:headbang:

Do it. You'll see more tire wear on the street, but welding it is way cheaper than a locker. And if you plan to swap in an 8.8 later, then the locker would be a waste since you can't swap it.

Thanks. I've been following your build and it's B2 is looking sweet. I might have it done this weekend, But i gotta get some knobbys soon.
On another note, how hard was the OBA?

Just do some research on it. I didn't weld mine to the carrier. Some do, but I've heard it might weaken it.

The OBA was pretty easy, just time consuming. Lots of teflon.

I used stainless rod, cut 1/4" steel to fit between the spiders and welded solid. the only problem is when you break an axle you'll be into a rear end change. This happened to me but gave me good reason to upgrade to a 8.8".

i would weld it up... weld the crap outa it!

This was the best upgrade so far. The Jeepsters can't believe how far this little B2 can go.
