ok for the past couple days my truck has been really acting up. first of all,, occasionaly while im driving, the dam thing will just die, i dont understand... theres no putter or anything it just goes bluhhhh an dies.... second of all,,, somtimes while the truck is just sitting there and running it idles rite at 600 rpm? is that normal? but other times its right at 1k? somtimes it will kinda like bounce between 500 and 1k rpm? can anyone explain this to me, cuz im hella confuzed..

thanks,

Could be several things.

could be the TFI (ignition module on the back of the distributor) is on the way out.??

could be the FPR (fuel pressure regulator)??

could be Temp sensor for the engine computor....or the Air temp sensor??

Could be a simple fuel filter or bad plug & or plug wire???

More information is needed...1st

Does it do this more when it is 1st started?? or ...after it is up to operating temp???

or won't it matter??

if after warmed up and has been driven awhile, then stalls/acts up and then is ok after it cools abit....Most would look into the TFI.

My friend had a bad gound to the PCM from the battery and his truck ran like that. Just something else to check...

well thats what makes it weird, its never consistant, totaly random. like somtimes it will just die when im drivin down the highway or just across campus,

and as for the idle? i let it run in my driveway back home for bout an hour and the idle stayed around 8-1k, but after gettin back to school yesterday i made a quick trip to wallyworld and it was back down to 600... i really cunfuzed...

Yes..do you have any code showing??

recheck grounds wires as Pyscopete suggested..as well as bad wires & or poor connections on sensors and harness plugs

ok i hate to sound totaly newbish... how do i check if i have codes showing??

No problem...this is on your 88'? yes. Do you have a "Check Engine Light" (CEL) on?? even if you don't you may still have a trouble "code" stored on the engine computer. Hence, pull codes or read codes.

here is a link to TRS ~tech library~(see tab on top of web page), outlining reading codes http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.html

LOTS of Great info in there, worth your time to check it out.
