My ranger has a flowmaster 40 series on it. The truck is older and my muffler had fallen off since the hanger rusted off. I had it rigged up for $20 and now it works, but the one pipe was bent badly so they just closed that exit pipe off. I went from having a dual exit to a single, and it made the truck sound horrible and not to mention my mpg has dropped from about 18-19 on the highway to 14-15! I cut off the metal they welded over the exit pipe, but now my truck sounds like a rice burner when I'm on the gas! :icon_rofl: It sounded bad ass when I bought it 3 years ago with the dual exhaust, my question is i have a 2inch pipe? I have measure the pipe over and over again. It's 2 inches, not 2.5 or 2.25. I cannot find 2inch tubing anywhere. Any ideas?

Where did you measure the pipe? before or after the muffler?

The reason it sounds so ricy is because the pipe is so small (well... its normal stock size for rangers) the exhaust gas leaves the pipe faster. Thats why when they closed off one pipe it went from 4" pipe after the muffler (technically) to 2" pipe after the muffler and it exits faster. If you step up to something like 2.5" pipe after the muffler it will return to the deep sound that you had before possibly.

Well the pipe was probably trapping exhaust gasses and therfore not free flowing and causing problems that drop your gas mileage...

Ok, well right now I have 1 pipe and I cut the closed off side open again. I want to get another pipe for it though because it's too loud inside the cab and sounds more like a rice burner then a truck...i knew it would be louder than when i had both exit pipes on, but i dont really want my truck to sound like a dodge neon with a fart can :bawling: i am going to put 2 new exit pipes on but any idea where to find 2 inch tubing online ? Also anyone know how hard the stuff is to bend if you want to customize it?

Jeg's on line, any muffler shop ought to have some. Son't think without a mandral bender, you are going to bend it.

Man. an exhaust rusting off after only 3 years? thats pretty sad. are you in the "rust belt" Because I live in PA and had duals on my old 97 ranger for about 2 yrs, and never had a speck of rust on mine. maybe it was because I washed underneath mine every other week..eh idk but on mine i ran 2.25 piping on my 2.3 and it sounded mean. 2 inch piping is kinda small to me, but each to their own i guess
