Weird problem with 4wd

On Ranger t-cases I believe it controls the electromagnetic clutch that spins the front driveshaft up to speed to facilitate the shift-on-the-fly function on e-shift cases (I know that's what it's for on pre-1995 trucks). I assume after mid-2000 when the locking hubs went by the wayside, so did the clutch, as it wouldn't be needed anymore.

The only trucks after 1997 to get a manual t-case were the FX4 (2002-only) and FX4-Level II (2003-up). It should bolt up to yours, but you'll also need to either swap to manual hubs (or modify your PVH hubs) or swap over to the later live-spindle setup.

Pressure from a plugged-up breather hose can cause seal failure, but if everything looks OK after you've fixed the breather, you're probably fine.

Thanks for the reply. I already got rid of the pulse vacuum hubs and went with the live axle setup so that won't be a problem.
I assume there's a cut-out on the floor already for the shifter right? Or do I have to cut a hole? And yeah, his is an Fx4, I'm gonna look at his truck first then mine and figure out how it's all put together.
Is there a way to keep the dash lights operable after swapping the t-case? No that I really care but if it's possible I wouldn't mind doing it. Now I have some other things to fix first that I might need help with but I'll start a new thread in the right area. Thanks a lot guys..

There might be a factory plate on the floor hump you can swap for the shifter to come through, but I'm not real sure (pre-'98 trucks I know had them).

I'm sure the 4WD lights could be figured out (splicing into the wires, etc), but I don't have info about it myself on trucks with the newer dash. Maybe the t-case wiring harness from the donor can be fitted to yours?
