weird noises! (its coming back!)

well i noticed starting maybe a week ago that after i start my truck it would ping or rattle just a little bit, right after i started it. i thought it sounded like the starter was maybe a little goofy and didnt think too much of it. here about 2 days ago, it started making a similar noise occasionally as i shift. if i'm upshifting it will 'wind down' when i push in the clutch, if im downshifting it will 'wind up' as i let out on the clutch. i started to think it was the throw out bearing but now, if i hold in the clutch and rev it, it will whir in sync with engine rpm, it does the same in neutral with the clutch out. i've also thought maybe an inner trans bearing but it wouldnt make noise with the clutch in if im not moving. so im not much of a clutch and trans guy (yet) but what do you all think? what are the odds it will make it till friday (60+ miles a day) cause i dont have the time or the money to do anything right now....

I had something similair happen to me. It would make a noise right after starting at it got more and more consistent as time went on. I crawled under the truck and saw my starter somehow had worked its way loose and was rubbing on the flywheel.... Just something to check.

yeah, forgot to mention...i had it out, was gonna replace it but my spares are both apparently junk. checked all 3 i had with jumper cables and the only one that worked was the one that came out of the truck. i was gonna pull the one from my other truck but its in the grass/mud and doesnt run, and i didnt have my other truck operational to pull it back on to the driveway. at 10pm it was too late to reinstall starter, move other truck, pull both starters, then reinstall again...ill save that one for tomorrow night

Check the rock shield that goes between the bellhousing and the block. There is a small course threaded bolt that could be working itself loose letting that shield rattle.

theres never been a bolt on either of my trucks. as far as i know its just the 2 that hold the starter and i think a pin that runs through the plate from the engine to the trans. i guess i will have to double check and try to find some hardware that fits it. it seems to be getting louder and sounds like something scraping on the flywheel teeth maybe, i checked to make sure nothing was hitting the fan. when i start it is when its most noticable, if i put it in neutral and drop the clutch as soon as it starts, it goes away. it does make noise with the clutch out sometimes though.

well i noticed today that the noise is starting to come back. i replaced the entire clutch set and it went away but now, less than 1000 miles later, its making similar noises. it makes noise if i hold in the clutch and rev it, in relation to engine rpm. if i put it in neutral and let out the clutch, it wont make any noise. it will make noise as i accelerate, in gear, clutch out. anybody?
