Hey everyone this is my first post here, and I need some help. I have a 1995 ford ranger xlt and it's been solid as ever since I bought it (which wasn't long ago- about late november early december ish) And just recently something has started squeaking from the engine. The previous owner hardly ever drove this truck, he said he put about 300 miles on it a year. I believe him because I know him personally but he wouldn't know what's causing this.

The squeaking is only noticeable at idle to about 2000 rpm then it goes away completely. It started out just being annoying but now it's really loud and really obnoxious.

My guess is that it's a loose belt or something. But I suspect it could also be the alternator bearing.. Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? thanks.

if it sounds like a belt squeak or alternator whine then have a shop check out your belts and test your alternator...

the belt could also be dry which would just need belt dressing. or u could buy a new one.

Mine does the samething when started on a cold morning, but it goes away after about 30 seconds.

I had that noise as well. I was my surpen-slipping-tein belt. I tried the lube trick and it went away for awhile. It then came back and it drove me crazy for the 40 min. ride back home from work one day. People STARING AT ME LIKE I HAD 6 EYES AND FOUR SETS UF LIPS!!!!! I was so embarased!!! I got a new one that night and put it on!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH

Thanks guys, how much does it cost to replace the belt? Money is a little tight right now..

Belt is about $12 ish, if you are smart you can figure out how to replace it yourself. If you aren't, we can tell you how to do it.
