My credo
The perfect is the enemy of the good.
Got a Hamilton Beach m-wave from Walmart, cheap, nice, big, and powerful, 1000W, but seems like more, stuff takes about half or less the time of the old one. Recommended times for 1000W seem always too long.

Strange thing is the "start" button is RED and the "stop" button is GREEN. I find this rather non-intuitive. I'm thinking of contacting Hamilton Beach and asking them wtf. Do they use these colors in China for stop and go?

Feel free to move this post to a different forum if you like.

Edit: it's this one you can see the buttons just like mine - reverse colors. Heck of a deal though, my first microwave I got about 1983 from Sears and it cost like $500 iirc. Which in todays dollars would be... a lot.

We see that color reversal sometimes industrial machinery from other countries. Even in graphic representations on computer control screens. I believe their thinking is that if you start the machine, it's more dangerous than when not running. So, red = danger, green = safe. In the case of s microwave, when it's running, that's when the magical death rays are produced.

yeah eric I had that thought too - green is "won't hurt you" and red is "caution, it's running" something like that
but they go off when you open the door anyway so to me, kitchen not being industrial application, and microwaves supposedly dummy-proof, I think this is not the right colors for the average person home use
at any rate it's sure reverse of stop lights. by the same logic, red should mean go (but be careful - you're driving through an intersection - traffic is moving), and green should mean stop (you're safe, you're stopped).
imagine trying to get people used to that. it would never happen.
kind of makes you think (with the red=running) I need to stand 20 ft away from it? am I getting radiation?

Sounds like when you have guys from Mexico do the plumbing. They hook the blue C to the hot side since caliente is hot in spanish.

we call that an error trap
