Weird Issue

Ok so my 87 B2 has developed a weird issue. While driving it feels like it downshits, but it really bogs down. It will not accelerate when it bogs down, i have to smash the gas to get it out of the funk. But it will also do it when ideling but worse. It will bog down to like 300rpm die, if i give it gas it will go but billow smoke. I cant tell what color the smoke is, it is either black or blue i think.

I didnt know weather to post it in the engine section or transmission section. I have done a little bit a research and it has some of the symptoms of a bad shift modulator. I will look at it tomorrow and pull codes.

hmm...I was going to say that it could be an O2 sensor. Perhaps it's dumping a bunch of gas (black smoke) into the engine and bogging it down. I would try to unplug the O2 and take it for a spin to see if it comes back.

Well i got under there and poked at the shift modulator. It doesn't appear to have any fuid on it anywhere, no fluid in the line either. But when i moved my truck to get to the other side of the truck, i rolled over the curb giving it gas and it puffed black smoke, so something may be wrong in the fuel system.

Where is the O2 sensor?

It will be after to two sides join and before the cat. On mine 86 ranger it was up top where it's hard to get at.
