I'm certain you are talking about one of the plugs that are in the holes designed to let the sand out of the casting after the iron cools. Them be called "freeze plugs"! Sometimes they do rust thru and start a leak..
If the freeze plug is in a location where it is easy to pound on it with a hammer it will be easy to punch that one out and install another new one in it's place.
If it appears to be hard to do that then there are subsitutes for the steel ones.
The easiest would be the ones that are mostly rubber. They have a bolt in them that tightens themselves in the hole.
SO punch the old one out and clean the hole. I like to use sandpaper in a circular motion to get it completely clean and shiney.. Then I use one of the rubber freeze plugs.. If the rubber one isn't installed just right it will pop out the first time temperature is reached.
So make sure it aligned straight and even on all sides while tightening..
Your idea of epoxy is a loser....
