Funny thing happened today, my wife and I were in line at the Costco waiting to get gas, and I noticed this funny new warning light show up...Its a pic of a fuel pump and appears to be rain drops next to it. Wife looked in the owners manual and couldn't find anything about it. I looked through a Haynes manual briefly and couldn't find anything... My Ranger is a 98 4.0 4x4 ext cab....anyone have any ideas? I figured that would only be on diesel engines....now it did go away after I left, but the funny thing was even after I turned it off as I was fueling, the light was still on....odd huh? I have never had any problems with either Ranger I have owned, and never have seen this light before.... like when ya start the truck it doesn't go on then either...

maybe the "drops" are supposed to represent fuel spillage. maybe you have a leak in your gas tank?

If it is the water drop it might be the water pump and/or the gas u put in had too much water mixed into it. I had that problem once I was out of state and needed gas I filled up and the "check engine light came on and I had it looked at and they said the water/fuel mixture had too much water in it.

My 98 Ranger did the same thing about six months ago. But it was pulling out of the station after getting gas. Yellow light with the pump and what looks like rain drops. Stayed on for about a min. and went out. Hasn't happened since.

the diesel rangers did have a "water in fuel" light, but ford hasnt put a diesel in an american ranger for 20-some years. ive never heard of or seen this light...im really curious now what it might be.

Did you look in the owners manual?

They usually have a diagram that shows what all the lights mean... which is handy because they don't always reflect the problem they are meant to all that well.
