was out in the '19 Edge today, nice relaxing drive in the Irish Hills area of Michigan. the area has lots of small hills and dips.
when approaching one hill that was quite sharp the dash lit up with "Warning approaching emergency braking" or something close to that.
it flashed up for only a couple seconds, then either figured out it was just a hill, or thought I wasn't worth any more effort. :dntknw:

stupid car

the location it happened is kind of humorous, I was out in Rusty's neighborhood.

Has to be a way to disable that. Police use the edge and they need to smash into stuff sometimes. :dunno:

usually I just tell the wife to shut up
Might need proof of this, it’s either really brave or really dumb to tell the other half that :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

Ive often thought about that “emergency braking” crap, what if I WANT to rear end something? or instead of conventional deer hunting just use the car instead? Did that in a CJ-7 jeep once, knew I couldnt miss it so I downshifted to 3rd and floored it. Took the deer in the next day for processing. I think of that one commercial (subaru?) where the dad turns around to look at his daughter and a truck either changed lanes or pulls out in front of him- well thats his own damn fault if he wasn’t watching while he is driving. Id guess there is a fuse or relay you could pull to disable it. Damn , now im sounding like rusty.

I have a friend with a chrysler 200, has the same thing. There is a dip at the bottom of the their hill, if you are going slightly too fast the car slams the brakes and practically throws you into the ditch.

I have driven all sorts of rentals (at least the cheap ones) for work trips, that new fangled junk is annoying... Was in one rental car using cruise control and it just wouldn't speed up, looked down and it was set for 99 (I was going like 60) but the active junk was turned on and it thought I was too close to the car in front of me so wouldn't let me go faster... don't get me started on the auto stop junk stopping the engine just as you get a green light... I didn't try hard enough to figure out how to turn that off, I just figured out that an extremely light foot on the brake pedal kept it from doing it...

New stuff wouldn't have liked what I pulled this morning, a jackass ran a stop sign so he could cut me off, made me slow down so I stayed 1 car length behind him at 55 for the mile until the next intersection/merge. I don't do that often, but the people at that intersection are nuts/stupid...

Yeah, I’m not a fan of all that assistance crap. In some vehicles it can be turned off in the settings menus, in some you can’t. Some have buttons to temporarily disable some of the stuff, but it usually only lasts for one run cycle. Very annoying and a bit dangerous.

That said, some of the new vehicles have a sort of birds eye view or 360* cameras and that is kinda cool. I still wouldn’t rely on it over my mirrors, but it is nice to get a peek into the blind spots and make sure things are kosher.

I won't say never, cause IDK what'll happen, but I have no interest in any vehicle with more safety features than seatbelts and airbags. Unless it's fast enough to justify a cage.
