Washer lift, what size?

Hey guys, I am about to do the washer lift to level my Ranger. I want about 2" in the front (and should be within the limit). How big should I make the spacer? I ask because I heard that 2" will give you more than that when lifted. Is that true?

Thanks. PS cool forum. :D

I did a quick search and didn't find the info either, so here it is from memory. IIRC 3/4" spacer gives a little over 1" of lift depending on engine and cab config.

Because your axle beam works like a lever the coil spacer will result in a bigger lift at the tires then under the springs. I wanna say around 150 percent lift at the tire (so a .75 inch spacer will get you 1.15 inches or so?) But I can't be sure. Trygoogling the store bought spacers and compare their size to how much they claim to lift

there's only room for 1" to 1 1/4" of washers...

The beams have approximately 1.5:1 leverage ratio, so you'd need a 1.33" thick spacer for 2" lift.

It should fit (this here (buddy's truck) was a 1" spacer + two washers), though IIRC the nut was right at the end of the stud, so that certainly would be about it's limit.

Cool! Thanks guys.

It's a 4x4 93 if that matters. I looked at the bolt and it seemed pretty long. Is there supposed to be what looks like a smashed spacer under the coil spring holder deal? Some kind of bushing?

Just a note, when you go get washers, 1 1/4" washers have the 1 3/8" hole you need... When I got some for mine they were like $.50 each through the bolt house we use at work for plain steel washers

i like the 150 spacers

Well I think I decided on the leveling coils. The current stock coils are really stiff, I think some fresh ones will make it a smoother ride, taller, and a bit flexier along with new shocks. Plus I can add washers later on to get more lift if I feel like it (I think). I'll refer to this thread's info if I do, thanks! :)

Should be a steel dome-shaped spring seat, with a nylon insulator around it for the coil spring to sit on. Sounds like maybe that insulator has had it (I would think LMC truck would have them, or a Ford dealer).

be picky with what you get for new springs, some of the cheaper aftermarket ones are just as stiff as stock.

And yes you could put a spacer under new coils sometime down the road.

Dont forget an alignment after any changes.
