Warranty vs self oil changes.

I’ve always gone with whatever synthetic is on sale and a decent filter every spring and fall. Amsoil did make a huge difference in the cleanliness of the engine interior of my first CR-V. But that was when I only had one vehicle to take care of. I can’t afford Amsoil in three. The cheap synthetic exceeds the OEM spec and the filters at least equal OEM. Good enough.

We did junk 3 vehicles this week for rot holes in the frames...
2006 international 4700 w/ 212k miles.
2004 f250 w/ 116k miles.
1984 Shitbox trailer. (<— maybe not the exact year, make, and model... close enough.)
What did the 2004 f250 die from?

Pretty much this...
It was in NJ. So most likely an STD.

Rot hole in the frame.

Here’s one of our Rangers we had to tow in tonight.
Poor little guy only has 6,187 miles.

I like changing my own oil but with this truck I will be more diligent on keeping receipts. I have always logged oil changes and mileage in our cars in the owner's manual maintenance log.
Thing is, the dealer where I bought it is just a few blocks down the street from my work and will do an oil change and tire rotation for $29.95 which is $2 more than it costs me to buy oil and filter at Walmart and I won't have to spend 45 minutes jacking up each corner and rotating the tires. That's going to be hard to pass up.
I'm thinking I will change the oil every 5k like I always have and take it to the dealer for every other oil change.
My daughter's Fiesta calls for 10k oil changes and once I didn't catch up to her until the oil had 12k on it. Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, I sent a sample to Blackstone and they said it was fine.
I'm reading on the Ranger5G board that some people who are getting UOA's are finding an abnormal amount of fuel in the oil.
