Warranty vs self oil changes.

I keep though maintenance records and the associated receipts to prove the truck has been maintained and properly cared for. It will help for any warranty claim and for sale in the future if I go to sell it. It gives you leverage to ask a little bit more and haggle less if you have proof the vehicle has been taken are of, what has been done to the vehicle, and that you aren't selling off a problem.

Not to mention, it helps me remember what the heck I've done to the thing.

I am a firm believer that todays oils are better than years ago, if you use quality oil. I have almost 260K miles on my 02 Ranger 4.0 SOHC and always change the oil every 20K miles. That was established with oil analysis starting with my 89 Ranger. That is made possible by running a micron bypass oil filter that also gets changed every 20K miles. The stock oil filter is changed every 5K miles with a Motorcraft oil filter. I always use Valvoline full synthetic oil.

The engine runs just as strong as it did when new and uses no more oil than it did after break-in. I still run it as hard as I always did which includes towing, a lot of off-road use along with daily driving duty.

At 250K miles I started changing the oil at 15K as a treat to the engine for working so hard for me for so long. I originally planned to keep it 300K miles but it is doing so well, I may just keep running it until I can't get parts for it anymore. Ford still doesn't have anything new that I like better.

I have no problem with people that change their oil a 3K miles. Just don't ask me to do it.

Keep receipts, write mileage on them.

We had a customer loose an engine in his Transit that he used for his pool service business. He had the oil changed by his truck service business and they didn't mark the mileage correctly on a single record. Ford shot down the warranty claim. That was an ESP, not a factory warranty, but still... They are hurting right now and looking for any excuse not to pay out for big stuff.

DealerShips = StealerShips
If something goes wrong after you put your hard earned money down & drive the vehicle off their lot,
by default, they will find any excuse to not make any repair free of charge, under warranty or not.
If you take them to court, documenting your maintenance may help get a judgement, but that's it.
Shops mechanics+managers, either at the StealerShip or at JiffyLube,
are paid for speed+sales, not product\service quality;
something to consider before handing them keys to your $30k+ vehicle.

He buddy, I have a cactus enema waiting for you.

I have a notebook in every vehicle and I record what Ive done, hard enough to remember with 1 vehicle, let alone 3.

Most new vehicles come with full synthetic now. Here's an article done by Mobile1

My dealer never has said anything about my self oil changes. I do them a 5000 and have been running full synthetic probably since 2010. They say they can look at the oil and tell if its been properly maintained. I still write the mileage on my filter and snap epic of receipt and odometer together everytime.

So you grow a lot of "cactus" around the house?
No.

Your generalizations about dealerships and their service techs was unnecessarily offensive and broad reaching. No doubt there are some bad dealerships and bad service techs. But it's not all of them. Painting with such a broad brush does nothing but offend good people and make you look really bad.

I have an awesome dealer. Great techs. As I've posted in other threads. There are actually 2 here in my area that people rave about. Never steered me wrong. Dont know if it was in this forum or another. But when i was shopping for my 20 Ranger they had an XL 4x4 nice truck I was ready to buy. When I sat down with the salesman I mentioned wasn't happy it didn't have a rear locker. He said well the paperwork is good for 30 days. Let him look and see if he could find the one I really wanted. Who does this? 2 weeks later he called said " Mr. Mangrum. I have a XLT sport on the lot with a rear locker and a 302A package I should see. Needless to say I was very happy even got it in the same color as the XL. That damn truck makes me smile everytime I walk outside to see it. Great dealer.

In 35 years as service manager I held the door open and escorted 3 "customers" out, you would be number 4. We had 3 generations of several families as customers and would often retain both the husband and wife after they divorced- which is rare because they usually would not want to chance running into each other. My service advisors, techs, and I were all paid hourly so we could concentrate on keeping the customers happy.
If you assume people are crooks and treat them that way, they'll live up to your expectations. Which you deserve.
There are no mechanics working at Jiffy Lube.

No doubt every customer that has been hit with a $1000+ bill at a stealership, & did not get their problem fixed, feels the same way.

Sure, there are unsatisfied customers around. From dealerships, independent mechanics, and barbershops.

Continuing your vendetta against dealerships is irksome. Especially given the number of good, dealer affiliated people on this site. Maybe take it elsewhere.
