Warranty vs self oil changes.

Any merit to the idea that ford can void a warranty if you service your oil yourself and don't have a receipt for one from a dealer or other place? Sounds stupid but I can put in better crap than a damn midas can and my mom thinks I'll void the warranty?

I insist on 3k oil changes and it's too expensive to have a shop do it plus, screw that who knows what garbage they give you... We are past the "free oil change" at the dealer thing. So I wanna do it myself so I know it gets a motorcraft filter and the right oil.

You could still keep receipts for materials and record date and odometer reading each time.
But I don’t know the answer to your question.

I’m probably screwed anyway. I keep getting phone calls telling me my car’s warranty is about to expire.

They say you haven't changed your oil how do you prove that you did?

If it throws eats the turbo and you don't have any receipts...

I do everything myself, I only farm out exhausts and alignments. The new Bronco will be going to the dealer as I don't want to have to pay to fix that little turbocharged wonder.

My last truck got its first oil change when the dash told me it was due (10k miles)... I turned it in when the warning came on again (20k miles).

Keep the receipts, that should be enough proof.

Take a video with date and time stamp every time you do it. Add that to the receipts archive.

I think the only way they can deny your coverage for home maintenance (outside of showing that you did something wrong) is if they offered the service for free as part of your agreement.

Keep a journal of any DIY work done, and buy the oil and filter together but on separate receipt from other stuff you may buy that same day
Then put in the journal the date the oil and filter were actually changed, staple receipt in journal or keep it in journal

It would be pretty easy to tell if oil wasn't changed and there was a engine issue, lol, old oil "looks" old

all materials used (filter & oil) must be the type approved/recommended by FORD. see owners manual.
keep all receipts & notes of mileage plus date. the picture idea is also excellent.

this came from a man that had a warranty issue with his truck that FORD originally denied. he took this info plus copies
for the dealer. FORD then proceeded with the warranty claim.

Ford says the edge is good for 10k. It gets done at 3k which is why we ran out of free dealer oil changes. I refuse to believe oil is so much better now with these insanely sophisticated engines that 10k is rational. Throw away your car at 100k then sure who cares. I think that is the thought here.

Have you considered sending off a sample to blackstone? That gave me peace of mind years ago. I turned in a 5k sample on my motorcycle and it was still in great shape.

I Have an account with them. Sent samples from my ranger for 3 years now. Know what I learned? Mobil 1 sucks compared to pennzoil ultra... At least in a Duratec.

Did samples from my mustang too but they were kinda... Unusable.

If something goes wrong after you put your hard earned money down & drive the vehicle off their lot,
by default, they will find any excuse to not make any repair free of charge, under warranty or not.
If you take them to court, documenting your maintenance may help get a judgement, but that's it.
Shops mechanics+managers, either at the StealerShip or at JiffyLube,
are paid for speed+sales, not product\service quality;
something to consider before handing them keys to your $30k+ vehicle.

I don’t keep them longer than 3 years.

Oil does last longer in gasoline engines now-a-days for a few reasons, one is running the engine hotter, 190degF instead of 170degF, this helps clean up the oil better
Fuel injection helps by not running engines as rich so "blow-by" is "cleaner", that's the biggest contaminator of oil
And oil formulas have gotten better

IMO a newer gasoline engine is fine with oil changes every 5k instead of 3k
But it is a personal choice

Diesel engines have much high compression so way more and dirtier blow-by, they still need oil changes more often that gasoline engines
