Warn M8000 or SuperWinch EP(i)9?

so i wanna buy a winch for my supercab.. i get stuck A LOT. very few of my friends around here have winches, so i see me using it quite a bit on both friends and myself, minimum 2-3 times a month, these are my options:

also could go with the "i" for $30 more, and 6 pounds more, 25 feet of cable more.


the superwinch is faster with no load, and is rated 1000lbs more, and draws less amps all across the board.. doesn't list pull by layer.

the warn is geared much lower, and pulls faster from 2000#+, but only half a foot faster at 8000#. only loses 1400# of pull by layer 4.

these are shipped prices from 4wheelparts.com -- i have a few hundred in gift cards to them--ive saved them up for like 3 years, didnt get any this year--and i want to use them on a winch. the superwinch is currently $60 off. if i was to buy that i'd have to do it within 6hrs, other wise its back to 664 shipped.

anyone? im leaning towards the superwinch because of the efficiency and extra load capacity. also it has an external brake, better suited for synth line.. but the ep9 is 30# heavier than the m8000 to begin with.

I have no experience with Superwinch other than the 3500lb unit I have on my flatdeck trailer, but I can tell you that the Warn M8000 is one hell of a unit. A friend of mine had one on his old welding truck and he managed to get that thing more than stuck on a few occasions going out to a lease. He kicked the piss out of that thing and it kept going strong. It was still pulling like new when he sold the truck.

Keep in mind an 8000lb winch mounted on a one ton crew cab truck with a Miller portable welding rig, full oxy fuel set up, and a steel deck is grossly undersized, but it never let him down once.

I have found that most of the pulling I do is on the first two layers. Pick the one that has the most pulling power at the top layer.

My vote is for the warn..you just can't beat them. I have an m8000 thats gotta be about 12 years old now, it still pulls like brand new. Hasn't let me down yet.

I'd go with the Superwinch after reading the newest 4x4Garage magazine. They did an article on which winch and why, line speed was ranked very important and Superwinch was listed right alongside Warn in terms of quality...

But it's a tough call because I think Superwinch only has a 1-year warranty and Warn has lifetime.

I think the warranty makes it Warn for the win...

I vote Warn as well, never had an issue with mine and a lifetime warranty speaks for itself. Also, most truck part places and part shops can get warn parts, and you may have to look a few places to find a dealer that carries Superwinch parts.

Nobody I've known with a Warn has ever had anything other than good things to say about it. I know nothing about the superwinch, sorry.

my dad has a a warn 9K. we have only went through 1 cable in the 6 years weve owned it. its a great unit. its pulled his TJ out and LOTS of other rigs without flinching.

I have the Superwinch 9.0 EPi. It's my vote. I won't go back to an exposed solenoid winch. The Superwinch is fast and reliable. If I bought a Warn, it would have to be an integrated as well. I have no opinion between brands, the the integrated SW is cheaper than an integrated W.
