Well me and my girl are discussing which vehicle to take on a 300 mile trip to go camping for the week.
Her car is 2003 Ford Focus 2.3L sedan
my truck is a 1987 Ranger 2.3L std. cab
she has A/C, I don't and she thinks that my truck is claustrophobic.
but I don't think that we could fit everything in her car and I don't like riding in the passenger seat of her car.

what do you guys think?

Were both stubborn as hell to, which doesn't help at all.

Sorry man, take the car and convince her to let you drive. 300 miles aint that far though so either one will be fine im sure, if you do take the truck find something to keep her busy. It will be a sweet gesture she will hopefully notice.

Only 300 miles huh? Take the Ranger. Last summer I took my Ranger on a 2,000 miles road trip from NH to Indy & back in 5 days.

BTW, I don't have A/C and it was 85 degrees + the whole trip!

simple. load up her her car showing it can't handle all the stuff you'll "need". when it all won't fit, just move it over to the truck and drive. good luck with this one.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I like this idea the best of all of them.:icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_thumby:

Well, while I'd rather take the truck on a camping trip, I say Focus for one very specific reason. Your truck is a standard cab. I used to ride 100 mile trips in the S-10 a lot. After about an hour and a half your back starts hurting.

After 6 hours on a 300 mile trip, your back is gonna hurt.

Good suggestions, I've already tried the taking everything we "need" and all I gotta say is the trunks in the focus are pretty big! :icon_surprised:

The one point we're at a stalemate is the seats, my trucks bench is super comfortable to me but it hurts her back, and her seats are really uncomfortable and hurt my back and legs for some reason, but she finds them really comfortable.:icon_confused:
that and the campsite we're going to is a mixed bag when it comes to the other campers, I wouldn't want her car getting damaged down there because of some idiot. with the focus you have to worry about the unibody with my truck I can replace anything they manage to hit, am I being to paranoid about this? :dunno:

Thanks for reading and for your suggestions!:icon_bounceblue:

I'm in the same boat as you are as far as riding in the passenger seat goes, however, I always have to be the one who drives, or I get car sick... don't know why, just do.

Just take one for the team and take the focus lol. As far as being paranoid about the car getting damaged, I really wouldn't worry about it that much.

What if you took both vehicles and put a tent in the back of your pickup? Use a good enough sleeping bag pad and it should be pretty comfortable.

Good Luck

cut bench seat in ranger in half. take passanger seat out of focus, put in ranger. problem solved!:icon_thumby:

Let the gf decide. It's not worth being in the doghouse for a week or more.

guess i'm just lucky. i've taken 2 1600+ mile trips in my truck and the bench seat has been very comfortable for me with one exception... my dog has to get as close to me as possible and she takes up her half of the seat and part of mine in the truck! and all she does is sleep once we hit the road. real pia, but what are you gonna do. she rides better than the wife so i can't complain too loudly i guess.

Agreed on the bench seat! The bench in '94 is the second most comfortable seat I've sat in while driving. (The most comfortable was an air-ride bucket from a Freightliner Century.) On a 2,000 mile trip to Indy, In & back to NH, I never felt one lick of back pain.

What kind of dog do you have? If it's a Great Dane, than you MIGHT need a bigger truck. :icon_twisted:

I took my 97 reg cab 5spd to Mississippi (the coast) and back....... I'm 6ft 4 270 lbs. My legs got a lil cramped but no big, and my 04 I drove back from texas with that ext cab it was comfortable as can be. The only thing that would bother me is the no ac, but when you get down to it, what kind of yuppie takes a freaking focus camping? that's just like putting a flashing sign over your tent that says "slashers welcome".

but eh, that's just me.
