Want shift from 3rd gear

Standard or automatic?
Sometimes the standards, when they get worn, the shifter will kind of slip to where they don't belong.
Block the wheels so they can't roll. Remove the shifter and look down the hole. What you want is to move pieces [the shifter fork fits into] so that they are a mirror image of each other left to right and top to bottom. You might have to drop the drive shaft in order to get things to move. Once you've moved things that puts the trans into neutral. Then reinstall the shifter.
