I did a search and don't find my answer. I have just been trying to get a education on it all and saw Vulcan makes 150-160hp (avg) and that ford has a 3.0 Duratec that makes 200+hp is this true? and does anyone make that swap or is it too muck bull to do? Man a DOHC engine has good potential..........

From what I understand, the Duretec doesn't Mate to a rear wheel drive tranny? I could be wrong tho.
Maybe in your research you've found something different.

Transmission aside it would be one of the most difficult swaps imaginable...

The Duratec V6 is a great engine, I bought a new 99 Taurus with a Duratec, gave it to my daughter at 46,000 miles and she drove it to 196,000 miles before she bought her first new car, then sold it to one of my techs and he drove it 2 more years before he traded for a Mustang. The valve covers never came off and the biggest repair was replacing the lower water pump tube because it got rusty. The engine is so wide that I'd look at a 5.0 swap long before I'd consider a Duratec, though. I also don't think they ever had a RWD transmission that would fit unless the 3.5 and 3.7 have the same bell housing face.

3.0l OHV Vulcan was designed in 1980's, first used in 1986
3.0l DOHC Duratec was designed in the 1990's first used in 1996

There is no relationship between the two engines except the displacement
3.0l Vulcan is cast iron heads and block
3.0l Duratec is aluminum heads and block

They use different bell housings so transmissions are not interchangeable

If your post is about a newer model 3 liter engine having more power than an older model, that is always the case with newer designs
The 4 cylinder 2.3l ecoboost rates 270HP in the new 2019 Ranger

As for a 3.0l Ranger swap, no, not practical, 5.0l V8 would be better and easier

If you really want a 3.0 DOHC find a Lincoln LS V6, and just use everything.

I wanted to do this in my B2 a few years ago, and did a lot of the leg work. The LS uses the 3.0 Duratec, with a 5R55 trans, which was also used in the Explorers and Rangers, so pretty much plug and play to do a 2wd, slightly more involved to get 4x4.

That would be a good deal, and probably a cheap swap. Not a highly sought after powertrain. AND 7000rpm shifts :)

2000-2002 LS did come with manual 5-speed, but rare option

Check out the "3.5 ecoboost or bust" thread to see how much work it is putting in a dohc v6 engine in a ranger frame. ;missingteeth;

Granted you wouldn't have turbos to deal with though.

Was at a car show Saturday, Ranger pulled up shaking the ground. Guy says it's "just a 302." Yeah. With one hell of a build. I mean, I'm not used to seeing a Ranger and hearing a hotrod V-8 at the same time. Wonder how he gets it to hook? LMAO!!

I give you a Jurassic Park Explorer and the truck from Twister, and I don't get as much as an emoji. Just Dirtman bitching about Helen Hunt...

The sh*t I deal with...
