I have a 1989 ford ranger 2.3L 5-speed. It started having a vibration at wot at higher 4000-5000 rpm. Now it does it around 2500 rpm on up. Also it makes a poping noise from time to time when taking off and driving. I'm thinking it might be a driveshaft problem but not sure if its a clutch/pressure plate problem.

set your parking brake, and with your transmission in neutral check your u-joints at the transmission and rear end for play or slop, also if you have the two piece shaft, not sure on your particular model, check your carrier bearing if so equiped

if your hearing poping its one of the u-joints, most likely the middle if you have the 2 peace drive line. i had the same thing happen to me yester day at lunch, so i swaped it out. i keep new joints on me all the time. when i hear the poping i know its time for a new one. its the lil bearings in the joint crushing. pinging sound. any wayz chang your u-joints. and it will be gone.
