I have got to get help with my new problem. I recently bought a 92 ranger 3.0 xlt, club cab. I have a vibration in it, so I swaped the Carrier Bearing. Still there. While driving (at any speed) the vibration is strong. when you let off the gas pedal, its goes away, in nuetrul. it goes away. when you put your foot back in it, the vibration comes back. please for the love of god someone illuminate me as to fix it. thanks. Yes I cant spell very well and I screwed up the header on this post. sorry. lol.

Thanks for the fast response. I recently put brand new tires on it. They were balanced and all that jazz. please forgive me but, how do I check the U joints? I was told to pull on the drive shaft to see if there's any play in the DS, and I got nothing out of it. other than that, I have no clue how to check u joints.

i believe you have the car in park and crawl under the truck and give the driveshaft a good turn if it turns more than an inch its bad? thats what i was told just passing on what i have been told.

Nope! What I do is put it in neutral.. then wiggle, push, pull and anything else I can think of while lying on my back under there.
If there is ANY PLAY in the joint ANY AT ALL I replace all the joints at once.

Thanks for all your posts. I had the same problem with a '94 Ranger XLT, 2WD. It was vibrating in the 35 - 50 mph range - when I took my foot off the gas, it stopped. Most of the vibration felt like it was coming from the steering wheel and column, so at first I thought it was a front end problem, but all chasis and steering parts were tight/undamaged. Then I read your posts and checked the universal joints following Big Jim's directions - didn't take long to find the play. A lot of play was evident in both joints just by turning the drive shaft. When the old joints were removed, there was a lot of "rust dust" in the bearing caps where there should have been grease. $35.00 at the local parts store for two new U-joints. Could have been a lot worse - thanks again for the info.
