Hey guys.. I have looked and looked and looked and read forum post after another for a solution for my problem. I've got a 88 2.9 ranger that would occasionally stall upon startup after a short 2 mile run to the store. After a few minutes of cranking over it would start.. sputter, then clear up and run fine till the next episode.. usually a few weeks. (Doesn't get driven a lot) Well now it just flat don't want to run at all. It will start with gas sprayed into the intake but will sputter TERRIBLY at best. I have put new plugs, wires, distributor module, computer, coil, relays, MAP sensor.. the IAC valve.. Fuel pressure is 40psi at the rail. Pulled the rail looking for rust and it's clean as a pin. Changed fuel filter on the rail.. ummm.. I'm sure I'm missing something. Oh.. the fuel pump saftey switch under the dash had a melted wire.. found that interesting. Right now the switch is bypassed. ANY help at all here would greatly be appreciated! BTW... not showing any engine light and compression is 160lbs.

Have you pulled a plug to test the spark? Just recently had a bronco 2 give me hell because it would sputter and never ran right. We had fuel, timing was right, replaced the ignition coil, plugs, and wires. Turned out to be a fried TFI it plugs into the back of your distributor and might of gotten cooked

I did pull a plug just to see if it had spark. Don't know the intensity but it did show to be firing. TFI was the first part I threw at it lol. Thanks
