Vent for Hurst or Core Shifter

Thinking about getting one of these shifters for my 1996 2WD. Does anyone have any pictures of how they created a vent for it? And how is it working?

I'd think a fitting drilled and tapped into the fill plug would be the easiest thing to do. Then just put a hose on it.

I never really thought about it when I installed the Hurst into my low buck race truck. But thinking back on it any fluid pushed up into the bellows with heat expansion would get sucked back in when cooling. I never noticed any leakage but never looked either.

It's my understanding that the OEM shifter allows the trans to vent: the Hurst does not. I've read you can cut a "notch" to solve this problem but I'm not clear on where and how big it should be.
My other question is should I change the bushings and washers before changing to the Hurst?
