94 4.0l swapped into 87 bronco ii. No smoke, no smell. Slight rear main leak-maybe drop or two on the floor overnight. Before swap i completely disassembled and replaced main and rod bearings, cam bearings, rings, and rocker arms. Engine runs great. steady 20" at idle, idles at steady 750 - 800 in drive, no codes, passes cylinder balance test. VERY slight coolant loss with no signature. Problem is used EIGHT QUARTS of oil last 3000 mile interval. Im working on the third oil change, so yeah, where'd it go? Pulled my #5 plug and it looked like this uploadfromtaptalk1442033339170.jpg any possibility lower manifold gaskets could cause this kind of oil consumption without serious driveability issues?

Ok, so has anyone REMEDIED high oil usage problems with lower intake gaskets? I'm going to try compression test just for fun and see if problem may lie deeper.

Came across your post while doing a search for mysterious oil loss and wow, sounds like my Ranger. It is a 98 with a 4.0 and beginning within the past year I started losing oil but not seeing anything on the floor in the garage where I park it. No smoke, did the dye test, no real leaks that amount to anything. Valve cover gaskets, upper and lower intake gaskets all clean, very little at the back of rear main and oil pan. I have no codes as well truck runs perfectly, I'm just losing the oil and don't know why. What did you find with yours? It even has the mechanic scratching his head as well. Thanks..
