valve body re-re A4LD special tool

hey all. i have never replaced a valve body in my life, however, i am swapping a good one from a older trans into a different trans to replace the solenoids. just as easy to swap the whole thing as to take the solenoids out. after much reading and examining the great technical PDF i found in here. it states about using a special dial indicator and screw tool for the idle servo ... how crucial is this? and can it be put back together with out this step in the repair? as the transmission is in the truck and i don't have this "special" tool. cheers

regular a4ld? hmmm dont remember anything off hand just swapping valve bodies. even going 2 wire to 3. have to look at what you are referring to

just reassemble like it was as long as it was functioning.

ok, wasnt sure if when taking the valve body off, it would un adjust the play as is shown in the dial . thanks for the info
