I think my vacuum lines need to be replaced. My truck starts fine but shakes before warming up(the engine misfired on me but only once). My idle is also rather rough. I've been told over the phone by my mechanic that it sounds like vacuum lines. I went to buy washer fluid the other day and asked the guy at autozone about my issue and he also said vacuum lines. My truck runs just fine besides those two issues and I am extremely strapped for cash. Is it ok to DD my ranger until I have the money to replace the lines? how do I find my vacuum lines under my hood (I know I seem like an idiot) any help would be appreciated

BTW MY TRUCK JUST PASSED EMISSIONS A WEEK AGO WITH THIS ISSUE

It won't cost you more than a few dollars to replace the lines. They're just rubber tubes that you can purchase by the foot at any auto parts store. Match up the size and buy plenty, then cut to length and replace.

However...

What you really need to do is look over all the lines for an actual break. It may be a loose connection somewhere. Could be an intake gasket, etc... An unlit propane torch can be helpful because you can open the valve and move it around the engine, listening for the engine to speed up. That will help you narrow the source of the leak. What you're trying to fix here is a vacuum leak, not necessarily a hose specifically.

Did you doanything to the truck at all? Take off the intake manifold? Also check your wires, plugs etc. When an engine is in the warmup cycle it is essentialy running rich. This will cause it to run a lil rough, however if it is abnormally roughI would start looking at components that have a different effect before warmup and after. IE the EGR valve could be stuck open... If someone recommends vaccum lines, its not to say they are wrong, however it immediately leaves open the possibility of emmissions problems that give the same symptons of busted vacuum lines.

Pakr hit the nail on the head, a vacuum leak doesnt always mean a vacuum hose. Dont buy parts till you narrow down your issue. Good luck
