Vacuum line to where???

While searching for a vacuum leak in my '97 Ranger (2.3L), I noticed that one of two lines connected to the HVAC vacuum reservoir tank is free floating. I think it is supposed to connect to the evaporator core housing but I'm not entirely sure, and if so I need to know what type of fitting to connect it with. (There is some sort of outlet on the housing that looks like it might be where the line should connect to, but the line cannot connect on its own.) Please help! Thanks!

(The diagram does not completely represent what my HVAC system looks like under the hood since I do not have A/C, but it's the closest I could find.)

Does it get vacuume pressure when the engine is running? Maybe a cruise control supply vac?

Second picture, isn't that a drain hose for the condenser tray.

Back in July, I spent quite a bit of time tearing down and installing a similar system on a 96 (there was no A/C so may be different). There was actually only one vacuum line going to the main control for the internal vacuum, that controlled the blend doors et al.

That piece at the bottom in the second picture looks like the guide plug that they use to mount things. It's just basically a hunk of plastic that fits through one special hole in the firewall and allows the unit to be secured once in place.

Now, I will admit to it being three months since I even looked at that system...so my information may be somewhat out of whack...plus the year difference could mean something like different parts used...

I did find that I had a bad vacuum leak inside the cab...pull the controller out of the dash and make sure the vacuum lines are sealed properly...I left mine out a fraction of an inch and the engine stumbled like crazy...
