my truck is only a couple years old, and the engine fan sounds like a shop vac, all you can here is the fan and it sounds terrible, im just wondering if i broke something maybe? its been like this for as long as i care to remember, doesnt seem to affect anything but sounds awful. Another weird part is that when i get water splashed into the engine the fan will shut off, which sounds great and you can feel a great increase in power

mine sounds like that when i first start up and before it actually warms up otherwise i dont really notice it. i notice the power steering pump then.

Does it have an electric fan? Thats weird how it shuts off with a water splash...

I know my fan is hella loud for a few minutes after start up but after driving it and warming the engine up it goes away. My theory is the clutch kinda stiffens up like ruematism, stick it in warm water and it goes away. Fans stiff, drive it a good 10-15 minutes and see. I'm kinda surprised you feel an increase in power... the 4.0L is more powerful then the 3.0l and even with an electric conversion its only like 1-2hp. not very noticable.

It sounds like the fan clutch to me also. The water splash probably cools it down enough to make it work for a little while.

I say fan clutch too. With the engine off emphasis on OFF lol, grab the fan and spin it. It should turn with some resistance. If it doesn't there's the problem. Water hitting it enough could give it enough pressure to let the clutch work for a while maybe? But thats where I'd start. Good luck

yea its weird, when it does shut off, it is a definate increase in power, much better throttle response, gets going a lot quicker

The fan clutch could be bad, the fan itself could be cracked, or the water pump could be going out. Check the pump (with the belt off) by grabbing the fan to see if the fan wobbles front to back (no wobble is best). Then spin the fan as if the engine was running. It should move without resistance at the same speed as the pulley with the belt off, and with resistance with the belt on (pulley not moving).
