i know this has probably been talked about a lot, but i couldnt seem to find much with searching. ive got a 1990 ranger 4wd, 4.0L automatic. it only shakes/vibrates when accelerating from a stop or very low speed. the harder i accelerate the more it shakes, after a second of shaking it smooths out completely through all speeds. it usually shakes extremely bad. i can look at the 4wd selecter lever and see it shaking back and forth like crazy during this. i know its not the transmision because it had a bad one when i got it(driving in first gear still and shaking) and after putting 2 differant ones(had bad luck the first time) in it was still shaking.
i am thinking it could be a u-joint, i beleive it would be the one right after the transfer case since the shaking seems to originate from there. although the joint seems fine. i changed the center support bearing.
could it be the joint where the rear half of the shaft slides together? it has a very small amount of play in it while pushing it up and down.
im going to change the u joint tomarow to see if that helps.
any advice would be great.

unless you didnt phase it right when the csb was replaced.

hard to say without seeing it.

i have seen to many things done wrong with the 2 piece setups to cause other issues when replacing worn parts.

may be as simple as loose ubolts...a broken rear spring or shackel or hanger or well worn spring eyes etc etc etc....

gotta be able to see it to diagnose it right

i can also add the when i take it off road it will sometimes make a decently loud clunk noise in the back over real rough areas. im sure its phased right, marked it all before removing. also since it was shaking before changing the bearing im sure thats not the problem. unless the previous owner messed that up.

well beat springs may be all it is.

then again if it is lifted that may be an issue....maybe it has longer shackles in the back that were swapped in at some point...you need to identify exactly what you have and the condition it is all in. bad engine and trans mounts will do this too....

well i pulled the driveline today and changed the u-joint at the front of the shaft. that seemed to have fixed the majoraty of the problem. the rest im sure is just the tires out of balance.

Any pictures of that? Mine has a little vibrating going on under 10mph ever since I put new/longer springs on. Just 2 inch lift springs, but since then it vibrates a little in 1st gear from a dead stop.

Okay, changing out my very worn our carrier bearings but for the life of me I have no idea how to get the last piece off so I can slide to old bearing off. Can somebody please help! I have this all apart and need to finish it today. Thanks. Here is a picture:
