How come no one ever uses a manual transmission behind their V8 swap? Seems like a T-5 would be a good choice.

No one did? Where've you been hiding? I had a C-4 at first but that lasted about 4 months before cratering. Toploader 4 speed ever since (that was 7 years ago) There's lots of guys here that have manual transmissions.

The reason I ask is it seems every v8 swap thread has a C4 or C6 to go with it.

im runnin a np435 in mine, most people do the auto route cause its simply easier

Or and AOD, but ya, like they said, there is a reasonable number of manual gear boxes done. Much easier if you had a truck with a clutch pedal to begin with....

mine has a t-18 4spd and a wil wood pull clutch set up

Another T-18er here. I pulled my clutch off what I thought was an F150. I tried to get parts for it and apparently it's a F350 only clutch for 8,500lbs GVWR and over. I guess it doesn't slip though lol.

I've heard ZF's can fit in Early Bronco's, not to mention the NV 3550 and 4500, I'm sure those have made it in there somewhere.

t-18s can come out of all kinds of rigs my scout had a t-18 out of a 11/2 ton milk truck with a 2" inpit

Easy route: AUTO

Harder, more fab, swearing 'cause the tranny you bought off ebay was a junker and it cost you almost as much as a new one:MANUAL

Sorry, loooong story........

Automatics can easily take that route too...

i used a m50d from a f150...$100...and has a np3235 i think cast iron t-case....damn tcase is more heavy than the damn tranny....:icon_rofl::shok:

I have a T5 and love every minute of it. I know plenty of people using them.

I'm planning on using a Top Loader in my 88 Ranger. It's got the Mazda 5-speed in it now. Does fine with the 2.9L, but won't work with the 351W I'm planning. I've had some bad experiences with the T-5 surviving behind my last 351W.

I think the key word is that he is running (soon) a 4x4. That knocks out the T-5.

Actually doenst knock it out for sure. If you could by any chance get lucky enough to find a adapter advance adapters used to make. It is a tailshaft for the t5 and a transfer case.
