V8 swap, tcases.

I noticed that you mentioned in your conversion article, that an F150 front driveshaft should be drop in with a conversion ujoin. what was the ujoint that you are referring to?
I can't remember the part number. Here is the ujiont size for the 98 f150

Grab a f150 shaft and start measuring and comparing everything.

Its been awhile since I have looked at a F-150 shaft, I knew the joints were too big but never checked into adapter crosses.

Got all me all excited about being a drop in.

Then I remembered... the NP205 doesn't hang off the back as far so a '150 driveshaft is like 10" too long for me.

My current scheme is a squarebody S-10 front shaft, they are the same 1310 joints a Ranger has but per the interweb catalogs is close enough it might just drop in.

Doesn't completely apply to your specific application, but just to throw some more info out there. I'm finishing up a 5.0 swap in my '89 Ranger. Ended up going with a Jeep np208 transfer case behind the e4od, because the big bw1356 tcase that came with the swap wouldn't even come close to fitting. The jeep np208 is like 6inches narrower than the full size bw1356

for a size comparison. jeep np208 tcase on top, ford bw1356 on bottom.

depending on trans, the jeep case needs a spacer or you need to cut the output shaft on the 4r70 down a bit. i like the jeep case and have used them extensively, but they are very rare these days. even the 208 ford case are getting rare....which you will need to swap the 31 spline input shaft from. if you want to use the stock ford speedo cable, swapping the ford tail housing on from a fixed yoke bronco f208 application takes care of that. though with the later non speedo cable trucks its not an issue.

Does the bolt pattern of the Jeep 208 fit the back of a Ford trans adapter or is there another adapter required? Or just the spacer?

they are clocked the same. gm is the odd ball for those units.

alrighty, so update. I got my 5.0 and have since broken it down to clean, inspect, replace gaskets, sensors, pull of rust and repaint the block. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, I discovered that at some point my piston #1 was damaged. luckily, it looks like the chunks were ejected out before there was too much damage to the piston wall. So, I'm thinking I can get the wall all cleaned up with a light at home hone job, but the piston needs replacing. I've been searching Ebay for a stock replacement, with no luck. it seems like the only single pistons for sale aftermarket are sealed power, and engine tech products. I have not heard anything impressive about them, and I dont really have 200$ to buy a new set from summit, anyone have any recommendations.
aside from spending a whole day at pick n pull to get one out. (which is what might end up happening anyway)

Putting in a single piston of different brand that the rest is a really bad idea. Save up and buy a full set. Even the factory pistons are classified into 3 weight categories to keep the engine balanced. The odds of your single aftermarket piston being the same weight as the 7 factory ones you have are so long as to be impossible. If you do that, the engine will shake badly and you will just have to tear it down again to rebuild it right, so do it the right way the first time.

Anyone have a wiring guide for wiring a manual 4406 into where my 1354 used to be ?

1. bw4406 with a motorolla pack
...
...
4. try to get the awd t case off the mountaineer.

When I get around to my swap, #4 is the preferred solution. I am aware for the shortcomings of the AWD transfer case, but for what I'm building it is still preferred. Anyway, the 4406 A4WD or "Torque on Demand" transfer case is my backup plan.

I've got to ask, what is this motorola pack that you refer to?

This is the link to my build except mine was a 98 model. The article is also in the how to section on this website. Also check out fastpakr's build it is similar to mine.I used a bw4406 manual tcase and loved it. Truck was smooth and quiet. It was my daily for 5 years until I sold it.

How did you do the wiring for the t case ?
