Doing Explorer V8 swap on my 86 Ranger. Will be using the Explorer's EFI system, not that it really matters for this thread.

To get the truck running I am going to piece together a system from some exhaust tubing I have from other vehicles which I think is 2.25" and pieces from the parts house. It may be a little undersized, but since I'm running dual exhaust from the manifold down each side of the truck it'll work fine for my purposes for now. When I get it professionally done I'll probably be getting probably 2.5" run about the same way.

To the point, I need catalytic converters. They ain't cheap so I would rather buy a pair for 2.5" exhaust tubing and reduce to what's there, that way I won't have to buy them twice. Will this work okay?

Any recommendations on which cats to get?

It should work OK.

MagnaFlow and Flowmaster both make aftermarket cats - much, much cheaper than any "direct fit" factory replacement.
