I am swapping a 1996 Ford Explorer V8 into my 1997 Ranger 4x4 and have been looking through all of the required parts listed and talked about in all of the discussions I could find.

After some research I found the Trans-Dapt 97361 V8 Swap Kit that includes oil pan, headers, oil filter relocate kit, engine mounts, etc in a nice kit, available with both coated and non-coated headers. Has anyone ever used this kit? I did do some searches but can't find any discussion on it anywhere.

I think most guys on here are thrifty, and that kit is expensive. You can scrounge all those pieces and be in it for way less money.

Not sure what brand headers those are, but it looks like a standard double sump mustang pan with the oil pickup tube. A little looking would probably bring up what motor mounts they are using. And a remote oil filter kit. I do not see anything else there and they want $1000 for it.

But don't let me stop you from buying it if one stop shopping suits you better.

Thought I responded to this a few days ago. Basically said the same thing that @franklin2 did. The kit has been used a lot in years past, but most people here are thrifty and roll their own kit.

Considering that Trans-Dapt is part of the Headman Group, I would assume that the headers are part number 89500, their swap headers. What fits and clears good has been covered a lot in the forum.

Oil pan is a standard Mustang style double sump and pickup.

Remote oil filter kit is a standard product. There are better versions out there. Some lower profile, some clockable, etc, but I haven't looked into what's available in a while.

The go-to mount for swaps these days is the readily available 4.0L motor mount and adapter plates. The adapter plates are available from several places, Rick's Rangers is a pretty common and good source that does a lot for the Ranger community.

If you want a one stop shop for what's included, then the Trans-Dapt will definitely work. If you want to be thrifty and/or possibly select better components, roll your own.
