I'm not very good on computers so bear with me. Ive got a 89 2.9 ford ranger 4x4. and i was thinking about doing a carb v8 engine swap. what i would like to know is. What would i need to replace? as in axles, drive shafts, computer, wiring harness etc. basically i need to know everything about the swap what will be needed and what will needed to be taken out.

Also, would it even be worth trying to swap out my 2.9 with a v8? See i have a 2.9 with over 200k and it has a bad tick. Its ready to blow up anytime and Ive tried everything to help it. So im going to need a new engine soon and i was going to lift my truck eventually so i was wanting to get some more power and i don't know what i should do. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks

use the "search" function... this has been covered so many times. over, and over again.

yes it is totally worth it to do a v8 swap.

carb....no. you can take a 1989 f-150 5.0 computer and plug it ino your current 2.9 harness. then it is just a matter of lengthening 2 or 3 wires. and splicing in another 2 injector connectors and you are done. an efi 5.0.

i kid you not, it would be as much or more work to stick in a carbed motor. don't do it

as to your other questions, most guys swap in the ttb front dana 35 (if yours doesn't already have it) and the explorer 8.8 on the rear. those are pretty much a direct bolt in. and will handle the power of your basic v8 all day long

Thanks man, is that about all i would have swap? what about the drive shafts and transfer case?

And also where would i find a 89 f-150 5.0 with low miles on it. would i have to rebuild it? Or can i get any ford 5.0 and drop it in and just get the 89 f-150 computer wiring harness?

good luck with that.

you can use any 5.0. for efi, its not so simple as the oem offereings are limited on thier own.

though remember this, you can use any smallblock from any manufacturer as well. broadens ones chances of cost effectively swapping a low mile low cost v8 into a project.

i got a mazda b2300 i got a lt1 out of a 1996 caprice ss and a 350 turbo trans i was wondering what kind of headers and motor and trans mounts to use some people were telling me to use the astro van motor mounts set up any suggestions

using some channel with those and the cam ram style manifolds is workable with the 350 type engines.

custom setup with leaf eyes will likely allow the best results.
