well i got it running tonight..thought the wiring was gonna do me in but i got it...swaping engines was a breeze but that damn wiring sucked...lol... anyway, just got to fine tune the carb. and get some exhaust and clean up and im good to go...i hope...thanks guys for all the help and advice...

Good to hear! :icon_thumby:

The old "80/20 Rule" really applies to V8 swaps. It is where 20% of your effort does 80% of the work, the other 20% takes the last 80% of your effort. The little crap that doesn't take much to do but you have a lot of little crap to do.

Cool Now the timing and adjusting the carb set the idle air for the highest rpm/vacuum in the lean position and then set the timing to where it almost pings. What your looking for is total advance at around 2500 rpm so advance the timing until it pings when you put the skinny pedal down at 35 mph and back off to where it almost pings and set the idle air again for the highest rpm or vacuum pressure. Dont worry about timing at an idle that will take care of itself ford V-8s perform better when you adjust the timing as far advanced as possible without engine ping and then always adjust the idle air every time you adjust the timing until you get it dialed in.

here are some things i noticed as far as gauge reading and you guys can tell me if they look good or not....the oil gauge reads about 52lbs preasure.....temp gauge reads 192 or so when the engine was running about 10mins or so...the volts gauge reads 14 and doesnt climb any higher...all this is before any timing and carb adjustments...

here it is in a nutshell..... all stock with 2bl carb..engine idles good in park.. doesnt get hot, 50psi oil pressure..trying to tune the carb and timing with vac gauge..i seem to get it to where i think it needs to be and when i put it in gear the engine stumbles and dies...i have fooled with it all day and i cant get it right...what am i doing wrong...how can i fix it...

you may need a small stall converter. or just may need to keep the idle a bit higher

your idle speed should be set with the truck in gear (ebrake on or with someone holding there foot on the brake)all accesories turned off. Idle speed should be what ever vehicle you got it out of. even injected rigs have the idle speed listed under the hood on the emissions sticker.so if you can't find the info on line or in a book you can run down to the wrecking yard and look at the sticker on a matching car or truck.
