- My credo
- If it ain't broke, I can't fix it.
I've just about wrapped up this swap, but the tach appears to be reading about 2x what the true RPMs are. The truck is a 98 Ranger with a 96 motor and PCM and a 97 instrument cluster. The engine idles at around 1400RPMs on the tach and I did the rewire of pin 8 (Blk/Ylw) from the small white connector to pin 16 of the large white connector. I do have the EVTMs so from what I can tell I did it correctly and I see the reasoning behind it (bypassing the 4.7K ohm limit resistor).
I'm having the same issue with my last Ranger V8 swap too which is a 99 Ranger with a 98 engine, PCM and cluster.
The funny part is that 1.5 years ago, I did a swap on a 2000 Ranger with a 99 motor, PCM, and cluster, and it worked like a charm.
Anyone have any ideas?
