V8 or 4.0 v6?????

So my truck has its supention lifts and tires and wheels are on the way but i cant decied if should run a V8 or a 4.0...
Im a off-roader and need some help. If im going for raoding(deserd,Trials, and little little mud) what would be best for me? Dose a V8 even help at all? Or would a 4.0 be fine? Because my 3.0 is going out soon and im gunna need to replace it soon. I wanna keep the engine from dying and getting rocks,water,mud,dirt, ect. Up in there and killing the engine. I will be driving this truck very little on the road. Please some help would be great! Thanks!!!

Starting out with the 3.0 and swapping in either the 8 or the 4.0 is a huge job. No part of the 3.0 is usable for either swap. You will need radiator, engine, tranny, transfercase, exhaust, all engine addons, wiring harness, and driveshafts for sure.
So I'd advise a simple gear change and rebuilding the 3.0. Unless you really want to spend months and months getting the ride together.
For what you will be doing with that ride the gears should make you happy.
