I am planning a conversion however I would rather just purchase a 302 that I could drop down into compartment. I understand some mods would need to be made but for acquiring the engine where can I just puirchase a crate 302 fully assembled?? any help please.

thanks

Worried about smog rules, manual or auto, 4x4 or not? More or less going to have to use most of what you can get from an Explorer for ease of fitment and wiring. Best late model swap I've see is the one Bob did. Looks just so factory and so well done.

i'm only concerned with smog. i actually would prefer to just buy a NEW 302 crate engine fully assembled, is that possible, who offers such?

Check out any Mustang magazine or Summit or Jegs, lot's of them out there. Your still going to have to go with the Explorer wiring, computer and a whole bunch of other stuff. A fresh block is just the start.

but as mentioned before your still going to need a transmission, wire harness, sensors and everything else that would come with an exploder if you just bought one, i would look for a totaled exploder before purchasing a crate motor

alright thanks alot for the tips. i actually located a 2001 explorer today that was rear ended and totaled i'm purchasing the explorer for $800 and has a 302 5.0 v8 so hopefully works out. once again thanks

That's a great fine, how many miles on it (in good shape)? That's just what you needed.
Going to stay with a manual? With the Edge you should have the torsen bar front suspension so the Explorer motor mounts will work. Got the cast iron exhaust manifold I would guess. Those are kind of all right for a stock motor, sure not great. If you are getting the whole Explorer, that eliminates having to deal with the PAT's problem. You will still have to do some minor wiring for the VSS (vehicle speed signal) and the tach. Both of those are not to hard to work with. What rear end you got now?
