2003 Ranger EDGE 5-speed . . . . .will it work behind a V8 ?

What you can do is retain your pedal assembly, steering column, hydraulics, etc when you do a swap. Then you'd use the M5OD-R2 from a 4.2 equipped truck and it will keep your shifter in the same location as your current setup. Do the V8 swap as normal (Explorer/Mountaineer donor), then you'd need a tuner to disable some of the automatic functions so it doesn't throw a check engine light.
Why the '96 specifically?
Gotcha - so you're looking for a separator plate that's originally designed for a 5.0 rather than a 4.2 to eliminate the dremel step. Potentially stupid question - can you not get away with the 4.2 starter on the 5.0?
