i was wondering witch would be easier to replace a 2.8. A 4.0 or a 5.0.
Also when did ford start using roller cams in the 5.0 and if the efi was batch or sequential since i can switch it from speed density to mass air. I have access to a 86 grand marquie with a 5.0.
Here's kind of a stupid ? has anyone tried to use a 2wd auto and run a divorced transfer case. if i go with the 5.0 i'll either swicth ecm's or run a c6/c4

The 4.0 V6 is in the same engine family as the 2.8, so I'd assume it would bolt in place. The 302's started going roller in 1985 with the Mustang 5.0. An 86 Marquis might be a roller block. Pull a pushrod and see. If it's a roller, it'll be 6.25" long. The big Ford/Lincoln/Merc cars were roller cammed in 87, pickups and vans had roller blocks starting in 87, but were flat tappet cammed til 91. They went roller in 92, they got a cam upgrade in 94 to the nearly H.O. level F4TE cam. The big car roller cams were small ones til the end in 91.
