Use the actual charger port. The USB ports are connected through the APIM, which is not rated to handle the load of charging the battery of your phone.
Android Auto only works through USB port. Not a critical need. Went on a long trip, needed traffic updates etc. Ranger specs also state the USB ports are smart chargers. But I think they may stop charging when data transfer is detected.
My info on the port's capacity is a few years old, they may have beefed them up since then. I do believe that USB systems are not capable of doing data transfer and charging at the same time.
Been a while since I checked. But I thought that, of the 4 conductors in a USB cable/connector, 2 are for power transmission and 2 are for signal communication.
Neither of the usb ports in my mkx or fiesta have enough power to do squat if your actually using the phone. Ford is way behind the times with the usb ports. They should be at least QC 3.0 15 watt. Easier to charge with the power port and use bluetooth/wifi for the data connection.
The ports at the front of the console don't seem to keep my phone charged, but the ones on the back of the console do.
Why?I'm convinced that FORD is in bed with Hyundai/Kia, at least with platform sharing, maybe even more ...![]()
Long Story really, but, I had a '17 sonata, my BIL has a15 Fusion EB. The structure and certain points of both cars are identical, not close, but Exactly the same. I posted a thread about it, http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/hyundai-got-me-thinking.179127/, and I also notice Hyundai/Kia had a 3.8L v6, a 5.0L V8, they used to run a 4.6L v8 until recently. Ford helped Hyundai back in the 60's break into the car industry, and have shared a few other cars since then. All of this plus the fact that Ford dumped Mazda, then a few years later Hyundai/Kia becomes a more reputable brand with styling a LOT like fords. I think if you strip the car down to sheet metal, you would see that they are identical. Why?
