The clutch in my dd (94 4.0l 4x4 5spd) is on its last legs. I haven't noticed any other problems with the trans/clutch within the year I've owned the truck, but I want to replace everything to have a reliable setup, and since i drive the truck 80kms a day and will be dumping too much money into the 4.0 on other performance bits soon

here's my dd on 32's before i stepped up to 33" duratracs...which probly didn't help my already weak clutch!

I'm about to order a g-spot worth of parts from summit tomorrow and want to make sure I'm gettin all the right junk:

-Centerforce DF clutch kit
-CF throwout bearing
-CF alignment tool
-Dorman slave cylinder
-Dorman master cylinder
-randobrand pilot bushing
-fel-pro rear main seal
-pacestter headers
-bosch 02 sensors (x2)
-having my flywheel machined in town

I also read something about a hydraulic line from ford p/n f1tz-7a512-a. Any input on its requirement would be appreciated! I've also read about the lines being connected wierd and require a special tool?????

I've searched the site and the rest of the net and I think my list is complete but if anyone can add anything to this list i've overlooked it'd be appreciated and repped!!

Sounds like you have it! FYI, if you get a master cylinder from Ford, it comes with a new line attached and is pre-bled and full of fluid.:icon_thumby:

i would go with the zoom clutch over the centerforce. thats just my opinion though, had a centerforce behind to 383 in my jeep and i didnt really like it. didnt take long for it to die, even with the 500 mile break in period. replaced it with a zoom, and never looked back

although I like Dorman products(they are cheap and pretty good) I think I would go with the LUK slave/throwout. I also am not a big fan of Bosch, 02 sensors. I would go with Motrocraft or Denso. they are all about the same price on rockauto.com, about $33.

Watch these vids they are helpful

I'm pretty sure Ford uses Bosch HO2S's from the factory, or used to. Any I've ever pulled out of Ranger pipes have been.

As for the clutch.....you're paying for non existent performance. Centerforce is a joke to me.

IMO, a Luk clutch kit from ford is going to last you another however long it took for your other one to die. Or even a high quality brand from a parts store will work. SACHS is a good choice, along with Rhinopac.

You should REALLY check out rockauto.com. I can get you:

-Rhinopac Clutch kit ( includes the pilot bushing/bearing, alignment tool, and line disconnect)
- Slave cylinder
- Master cylinder
- Rear main (the nice fel-pro PTFE one piece design)
- HO2S's

All for under $350 shipped.

That should save you some money...You can adjust that price by buying cheaper or more expensive quality parts.

As for the flywheel, depending on the shape, it may not be able to be machined. Heat and stress cracks aren't always removable without excessive machining. Anyway, you can get a new flywheel off rockauto for less than $40. Be sure to use lock-tite on those flywheel bolts when they go back on too.

Sorry to push rockauto, but man......they've turned SO many $1000 jobs into $500 or less for me....it kinda unrealistic at times.

Ranger44. +1 on Rockauto. I have bought a bunch of stuff from them and they all worked out great. Somtimes you have to pay shipping from multple locations but they still end up being less. And their shipping and handling is very reliable.

The aftermarket slaves in you get for these trucks are notoriously shitty. I strongly recommend you get one like this with the boot on it to protect it from dirt/debris. In the 4 years I've owned mine I've put 3-4 slaves in it, they all started leaking after a few months of use. I've finally landed on what I believe to be a quality slave compared to all the others. This NAPA one is metal compared to plastic like the others, and the cover on it is a huge plus.

kennykenny, it might be helpful to fellow members if you tell us the brands names of the slaves that failed on you. I agree the slaves are the weak link.......that is why I suggested LUK. I think most of the new ones have the boot on them. what part of the napa one is metal? is this the napa part #NNC 360016 ?.........I did m clutch over thanksgiving and the salve I pulled out had no boot on it and was marked I.M.C it had not failed.

Thanks everybody! I'm gonna check out rockauto for the list. Bummed out hearing that Centerforce isn't as good as they say they are... i was relly hoping for an aggresive clutch that i could spank offroad with confidence. maybe thats the rhinopac or sachs...

I also just found out from the prev owner that he put a ford slave cyl in a while back, so i may leave that alone. i'll be pulling and inspecting everything this weekend either way

so my op was monday from work. on my drive to work i had to baby every shift and on my rides home that night heading up the last decent sized hill, my clutch totally burned out! was able to pull up the hill in 1st gear, 4000rpm at 15km/h! pretty happy about my free towing anyways

GMillion. A good rule to gp buy is EVERYTIME YOU DROP THE TRANNY REPLACE THE SLAVE. I would not reuse the existing slave

modelageek, I'm not sure on brands, at least one from advance auto and one from another local parts place. The base/housing of the NAPA one is metal.

Add whatever brand slave CarQuest sells to the list of sh***y slaves..... leaking after 10 months. I'm pissed.
