Was replacing my EGR valve last night and I broke the pipe that goes down to the header!! So now I just capped off the header hole with a bolt and capped off the intake end. I also unplugged DPFE sensor. The plug that has two hoses from the egr... Im not sure if i was supposed to do that?? Am I going to get engine damage by doing this? It seems to be running fine. Here is a picture of the wire I unplugged. ANY HELP WOULD BE FANTASTIC! Picture Below.

It'll run fine without the EGR.

Tomorrow, read this link http://www.hotrodhigh.ca/EGR.html (link is disabled for SOPA protest today) and decide if you want to cheat your PCM into thinking egr is still operational. Or, just keep driving it as is and the Check Engine Light will be on and EGR will be disabled by the PCM anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't want the CEL on all the time. If you could get a later year PCM from a Ranger 4 liter that doesn't HAVE egr, you'd be golden.

what would be the point of unplugging it?

This is just temporary, It was completely rotten and I ordered the parts from ford. I am doing the repairs this weekend just needed the truck for the rest of the week. I blocked the intkae tube with a piece of teflon and the bolts. And used a bolt for the Exhuast side. Once I reinstall the egr do I have to do something for the computer to rerocinze it? Unplug negative on battery or? Thanks Guys!

You shouldnt have to. As far as I know, it will reset itself.

If your CEL light comes on I'd unhook the negative terminal for a few minutes just to clear the light.

It will run an on-board self test as you drive and see that things are working properly again, but may take a while to clear the code out on it's own.
