This is my only ride and do not want to fry it, need help asap pls!
Im new to this, i have done extensive research but i have a few questions.

I have good mechanic and tools but this procedure is new to him also

I have a 98 ranger ext. cab fx4 4.0l

-i need faqs on how to install the rebuild kit
Or personal experience help
-i cant find the trans case outer shell gasket online. why?

-my chain inside is barely on the gear
Will i need anything else besides chain?
No grinding noises, just clunks when put in 4wd

-i read that theres a gasket or something between trans and trans case
It was Said u cannot buy this. What is its purpose and what do i do?

-do i need special tools to remove bearings, seals, chain?

- where do you recommend me buying the kit?

- i need to replace front and rear bearings and seals due to extreme failure
- trans case wont hold needed amnt of oil due to bad seals

-need to replace chain due to clunk

- does the 1354 rebuild kit include everything i need besides chain

- i also read that i have to reset computer to find the trans case?

- does anybody on here have any parts on hand that i can buy and need?

I just need to know how to fix these problems and need to know everything i need that does not come with the rebuild kit to re-install the trans case.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

!HELP YOUR FELLOW RANGER! Lol

Okay thx that helps.
I pretty much know what i have to buy now. I was unsure at first.
Y cant i find a single tutorial on how to rebuild this thing Anywhere?

I can handle taking it out and apart but whats inside worries me a bit

Okay theres been a change of plans.

Ive decided to buy a used t case. Searching ebay atm.

Will any 1354 fit from 86+ ? Elec shift. or do i need to get specific year 98?

I got my rebuild kit from Cobratransmission.com The kit was of great quality. You need to press the bearing off of the planetary gear output shaft to change it. Other than that, it's just pressing the bearings out/in. You WILL need a blind hole bearing puller for the bearing inside the case and the brass bushing on the shaft.

I`m thinking it would be like a timing chain you may want to replace both sprockets also to tighten it up?

Hope that pic workd but the tag in my hand is from a spare trans case and the other tag is my trans case. Can i swap even with diff nbers. Both r elec shift

Count the output splines on the end that goes into the transmission. Then see if you have the correct front yoke for your driveshaft. Also check the plugs for the electronics.

You will need to pay attention to the output yokes. The older ones won't fit your front driveshaft.

My best advice is for you to get one from a local junkyard, from a modern 98+ low mileage, Ranger. Me, I'd go so far as to take ramps to the JY with me.
Have them bring a T-case out near the truck, drive the Driver's sides tires up on the ramps, and compare the cases/yokes.

Pay attention to the wiring for the motor too, don't CUT yourself short of wire.

This is NOT a part I would ever buy on E-Bay. Ever.

No need... ALL 13-54s (also 13-50s and 44-05s, but they dont matter for this discussion) have the same input spline count and bolt pattern.

Okay well my mechanic has this tcase and it seems more convenient to fix it. It has no seal leaks and is mechanically tight.
