Hi guys
So ive bought my new project; 97' 4.0 4wd ext cab with the 5r55e.
Story of the tranny:
10 months ago it dropped a lot of oil from the tranny while hauling on the highway, it was later refilled but none other actions was taken. It has been sitting still afterwards
Error codes: P1701
It can barely engage in Reverse & only does so when the RPM it up at 2500RPM approximately and it can only go reverse very slow and only like 1/10 times.
D it not functioning, it will not engage.
1 & 2 manual is working fine and drive & shifts.
I bought it well knowing I would possible need to rebuild the VB & tranny, maybe only the VB if I am lucky.
And so yesterday I began to dismantle the VB:
Update 14.01.15 - Valve Body pulled
Alright so today I initiated the valve body pull!
I removed the pan and inspected the oil - Pretty dark / & redish. Smelled a little burned

So what the conclusion of the state of the oil in the pan? I havent split the filter yet to inspect the internals!
Here's a shot before I pulled the VB:

As I went through the guide I found I noticed that this lever was supposed to be attached to the spool like this:

But mine was not ???

I created the template for the valve body bolts:

Pulled the valve body, but gasket stayed on the tranny and it was broke here (other piece is on the VB)?

And VB, filter and servo gasket pulled:

So whats the next step for me? What shall I inspect to check for internal component damage and if I need to do a full rebuild?
The guys at FRF suggested that it is coolant mixed with ATF - almost looks like the metal components on the VB is a bit rusted? I will do a full flush of the tranny and oil cooler - whats the easiest way to flush the whole system?
On the guide I found, the poster had mentioned these parts would be needed for a updated an slick valve body, can anyone confirm?
